Angkor's yearning for Angkor stems from a travel book, Cambodia: blooming in May, I read when I was in my twenties. This is probably the Enlightenment of Angkor for most of Wenqing! However, the yearning at that time did not turn into a journey, and even gradually forgotten by me, just like the huge ruins lost in the jungle.
In the middle of the last month of 2015, haojiyou suddenly asked me, do you want to go to Angkor together during the new year's Day holiday? Heart buried for a long time in the small read want to be asked, instantly turned into a big Aries irresistible impulse, not too much entanglement decided to go a!
Total cost: RMB4000 + / person (including air tickets, hotels, tickets, meals, car rental, etc.)
First part
1. Visa: Cambodia visa has three options: landing visa, electronic visa and paper visa. In view of my hobby of collecting visa stickers and not wanting to wait in line for visa after landing, I chose paper visa. A Bao found a local travel agency with a good evaluation, paid 299 yuan, handed in his passport and two 2-inch color photos on a white background, and finished it in seven working days.
2. Air tickets and itinerary: from Shanghai to Siem Reap, Cambodia, where Angkor is located, China Eastern Airlines, Chunqiu airlines and Angkor airlines have direct flights.
——Since the trip is only two weeks from decision to departure, and haojiyou can only leave on January 2, the feasible options are very limited in terms of air ticket price and travel time.
——Finally, through a tourism e-commerce platform, we found the 5-day round-trip free air ticket package of Spring Airlines which started on January 2, with a round-trip tax inclusive price of 1099 yuan / person. However, because it is a red eye flight, the actual travel time is only 3-5 days, a total of 3 days.
——Our flights and itineraries are as follows:
- travel itinerary: January 3 (Angkor outer circle) - January 4 (Angkor big circle) - January 5 (Angkor small circle)
*The part marked in red is the scenic spot worth spending more time to enjoy.
In fact, three days is a little tight. Scenic spots such as the Queen's palace, penmilet, tabron temple, Bayan temple and Angkor Wat are really worth visiting. It's not too much to stay for half a day. The hot weather in Siem Reap will greatly reduce the efficiency of tourism. If I go again, I will arrange for five days, which will not only avoid skimming water, but also not make myself too tired.
3. Hotel:
——From January 2 to January 3, the room rate of popular Boutique Hotel Siem Reap is RMB 100+
It's about 10 minutes' walk from the hotel to the bar street and night market. Although it is called Boutique Hotel, the actual room is equivalent to the standard of Shanghai economy hotel, simple and clean. Free breakfast is available in Cambodian style and Western style. Cambodian style rice noodles are delicious. The hotel has a clean swimming pool.
——Room rate of popular residence siem reap from January 3 to January 4: RMB300+
It belongs to the same owner as the popular boutique hotel. It is a luxury hotel with strong new Southeast Asian style. Hotel to the bar street and night market take Tutu bus about 15 minutes. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, with loft style concrete floors and Cambodian style wooden furniture. The hotel also has a swimming pool. In particular, the Cambodian style salty porridge ordered by his family for breakfast is not only large, but also delicious.
——From January 4 to January 5, Le Meridien Angkor room fee is $80 (customer price, actual price is about $100 +)
Starwoods brand, room and service quality will not be bad. The hotel is located on the way from Siem Reap to Angkor. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Angkor Wat by Tutu bus. Besides, the air-conditioning in the room is very good. It's just suitable for walking at noon. When you are tired, you can come back for a rest. Sofitel and Regency are close to the hotel, and Park Hyatt is close to the old market. The croissants for breakfast must not be missed, and the others are ordinary; It's no use having lunch.
Generally speaking, there are many kinds of hotels in Siem Reap. You can find the one you like, whether you are poor or petty bourgeois. I prefer local boutique hotels like popular Residence Hotel, which are first-class in terms of facilities and services. In addition, Sarai Resort & Spa Siem Reap, which is not far from the popular Residence Hotel, is also recommended. The style of French mansion is very elegant, and the price is from RMB600 +.
4. Luggage preparation:
——Clothes: short play in summer is OK, especially need to remind is, girls had better not wear too cool, in order to avoid some temples are forbidden to enter. In fact, in the actual play, I found that the most suitable dress is the printed trousers (long skirt) with Cambodian style. Besides being light and cool, the gorgeous color is the best choice to shoot moving pictures under the background of ruins. In the morning and evening, when you go out in the Tutu car, although the wind is cool, boys can definitely cope with it. For girls, just take a silk scarf. In addition, a pair of suitable sports shoes is also indispensable, or as the local people, to double flip flops.
——In January, the sun in Siem Reap is still hot, so sunscreen and sunglasses are also necessary. I brought some mosquito repellent, but I didn't use it. In addition, prepare a package of sterilized wet tissue, which can be used to wipe hands or sweat before eating.
——The three hotels I stayed in all had Chinese sockets, so there was no need for adaptors.
——It's hard to avoid bumps when walking through the jungle and temples. Remember to take waterproof band aids with you.
5. Communication preparation:
——After applying for international roaming service, China mobile card can use 3G network to access the Internet in Cambodia, with good speed. If you apply for another mobile data preferential package, it will be RMB 60 per day for unlimited traffic.
——What I actually use is the local 3G calling card (metfone) purchased from TB in Cambodia, which is RMB 49 yuan. Seven days unlimited flow + 10 minutes of China call (direct dial with mobile phone card) + 100 minutes of intra network call (intra network call refers to calling the mobile phone number of the same metfone card company). In fact, the speed of the unlimited flow mentioned here will drop to 256Kbps when the flow exceeds 1.5g.
——After personal experience, I found that there is almost no signal in the scenic area (so the portable WiFi rented is not available, but the cost is 100 + in three days), and there is free WiFi when I go back to the hotel, so 1.5g traffic in three days is enough. Therefore, I highly recommend buying this kind of local calling card. If you stay longer in Cambodia, there are other packages to choose from.
6. Photographic equipment:
——SLR, micro single, let's get what we need. Although I have a tripod, I can only use it when I watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat. As a result, because I overslept that day, it was nearly 6 o'clock when I arrived at Angkor Wat. There were a lot of people, and the tripod was useless. The rest of the time, is put in the hotel to sleep.
7. Restaurant reservation:
——Most of the restaurants in Siem Reap don't need to be reserved in advance, including the popular Khmer kitchens, Cambodian BBQ and so on. There will be seats in the rush hour.
——Haven training restaurant had better make reservation in advance. They recently moved to a new address: Chocolate Rd, wat damnak area west of Angkor high school Siem Reap. So if you want to go, be sure to make it clear to the driver, don't run on the wrong road.
8. Entry and exit:
——When waiting at Pudong Airport, I heard the tour guide of the tour group say directly to the members: when entering the country, each person should prepare $1 as a tip to the staff of the customs and Immigration Department. Quite speechless.
——In fact, as long as the visa and the required materials are OK and the hint of "tip" is ignored, the staff of the customs and Immigration Department will not make you particularly difficult and will not delay much time.
9. Car rental:
——I feel that the price is very chaotic. We arranged car for 2 days, Tutu for 1 day and TB for $120 +. Finally, I found the driver recommended by netizens, and the quotation was $115. I thought it was cheap, but the landlady of popular Residence Hotel said that car for one day was $30 at most.
——So I don't think it's necessary to blindly believe in the recommendation on the Internet. Ask the hotel they stay in, and they may get a lower price.
10. Background information preparation
——From the 9th century to the 15th century, more than 600 years ago, Angkor Dynasty established the largest urban complex on the planet before the industrial revolution in the southeast peninsula. Among the remains of these palaces and temples, brick and stone carvings are the most outstanding. Most of these amazing sculptures are deeply influenced by Hindu and Buddhist culture. Therefore, it is necessary to take some time to read Mahabharata and Ramayana before departure.
——The beauty of Angkor by Jiang Xun systematically and popularly introduces Angkor's artistic beauty from the perspectives of architecture, religion and culture, including the book, the attached Zhenla Fengtu Ji and the 20 episode interview documentary Yinyuan Xiaoju. If you think that the contents of mahabalodo and Ramayana are too obscure, you can have a glimpse of Angkor's past glory from the beauty of Angkor.
——Lonely Planet Cambodia is a comprehensive book, which is very useful for making a strategy before the trip. The introduction of scenic spots in the travel notes are all extracted from LP
——"Travel frugally around the world - Cambodia" is a very detailed introduction to the stone carvings of Angkor Wat and Bayan temple, which is suitable for reading when visiting.
——In station B, there is a film of Angkor Wat, a huge historical relic shot by NHK. You can download it and hold Buddha's feet temporarily on the plane.
11. The main currency in circulation in Siem Reap is US dollar. Only when the change is less than US $1, will the change be given to the Cambodian local currency Riel.

Departure (02jan16)
After meeting with haojiyou at the airport, I began to line up to check in. Spring Airlines International tickets currently do not support online check-in, but the scene and staff that need to buy front seats in the cabin, you can give priority to check-in procedures. The specific seat distribution is as follows:
The specific cost, luxury seat: RMB 150 / person; Business seat: RMB 100 / person; Comfortable seat and safe passage seat: RMB70 / person
Return trip, luxury seat: $25 / person
Considering that the first day's journey will begin immediately after arriving in Siem Reap, in order to ensure a comfortable rest space on the plane, we chose the seat with RMB70 / person as the safe passage. When checking in, the staff will give a Cambodian entry form and remember to fill it out on the plane.
The next step is to queue up for customs clearance and security inspection, and then go to the duty-free shop to buy.
The plane took off on time at 8:35 and arrived in Siem Reap at 1 a.m.
Day1 03JAN16
Morning: Queen's Palace
Afternoon: penmilier - Luoluo Temple Group - Donglisa Lake
Dinner: Khmer kitchen
Out of the cabin door, a peculiar Southeast Asian hot and humid atmosphere came. Siem Reap airport is really small. It's so small that it doesn't even need a ferry. It takes two or three minutes to walk into the terminal. The speed of entry is also very fast. It should be noted that it is necessary to make a good paper or electronic signature in advance, so that the customs staff can not make trouble. They can press a few fingerprints at most.
It's about 25 minutes' drive from the airport to Siem Reap, where the hotel is located. Although it's nearly 2 a.m., you can still hear the loud music when you pass the bar street.
After arriving at the hotel to wash up in a hurry, I had another three hours' sleep. I got up at 6:30 and had breakfast. After that, I connected with our driver, Jiaming, and began to look forward to the existing Angkor trip.
On the streets of Siem Reap in the early morning, at the entrance of the popular Boutique Hotel, Tutu cars and motorcycles shuttle by.
The front door of the popular boutique hotel is very small. The lush tropical plants and the powerful statue of hanoman are full of Cambodian style.
There are two kinds of breakfast in the hotel: Western style and Cambodian style. Originally, I didn't expect this kind of breakfast, but I was amazed by the local characteristic rice noodles in Cambodian style breakfast. It looks like clear soup, but the taste is very strong. Combined with a little fish sauce and lime juice, this bowl, though simple, is extremely impressive. If you don't pay attention, you can see the bottom of the picture before you can take it. I don't have the fatigue of catching a flight all night. After the meal, the hotel also prepared coffee and fruit, which must be greatly praised.
On the way to the Queen's palace, you will pass Angkor ticket center. All tourists must get off the train and queue up, pay, take photos and collect tickets according to the types of packages they need to buy (1-day pass $20 / person, 3-day pass $40 / person, 7-day pass $60 / person).
Banteay srei
Built in 967, it is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. It is made of peach colored stones. There are the best stone carvings in the world, and many of them are three-dimensional. Because these carvings are so exquisite that many tour guides introduce the Queen's palace as the bedroom of the king's concubines. In fact, this beautiful temple far away from Angkor was built by a Brahman, a teacher of jayedamo V, on the land awarded by the king as a place for his own rehabilitation after retirement.
The essence of the Queen's palace lies in the luxurious possession of the Sutra and three central pagodas, with a large number of statues of men and women, and beautiful relief of gold and silver. This is just a few grains of dust in the art world of the Queen's palace. In the interior of the building, almost every inch of the walls are decorated with exquisite relief patterns
The mythical guardians guard these perfect works in the palace. The statues of these guardians are copies, and the original ones are kept in the National Museum.
In 1930, EFEO restored the Queen's palace with the method of original object return, which is the first time that it restored the main temple with this method. This method achieved great success and was soon applied to other large-scale projects, such as the restoration of the bayong temple. The Queen's palace is also a temple with complete facilities, designated dining and shopping areas, and clear road instructions.
Carved Gables
In 1923, Andre Malraux, a Frenchman, secretly packed the main statues and sculpture fragments of the Queen's palace in the dark and tried to transport them back to France. Fortunately, they were found in Phnom Penh. Interestingly, Malraux later served as French Minister of culture. After many years, speaking of this disgraceful experience, he often laughed at himself. At that time, he was too young to see such a beautiful thing, and he was so obsessed that he made such a move. It can be seen that the Queen's palace, known as a pearl in Angkor's art crown, is not really a false name.
In one of the central towers, the door of the tower is sealed with huge stones with exquisite patterns, which means that it may be a relic tower. The stone statues on both sides of the door are Apsara goddess holding lotus.
The Royal Palace is about 32 kilometers from Siem Reap, about 45 minutes by car. Although the Queen's palace is not big, it will take half a day to appreciate it carefully.
It was noon when I came out of the Queen's palace. I followed the driver to a roadside restaurant and ordered a must-have amok, spring rolls and a bowl of dongyingong in Cambodia for $20. It was delicious. Local amok usually has four choices: pork, fish, chicken and beef. The beef is older, the fishy smell is very strong, and the pork and chicken are delicious.
Beng Mealea
After lunch, we drove for an hour to another magnificent temple, bengmilie.
There's an extra $5 per person ticket for banmi train.
Noon is the best time to visit bengmilie. Although walking on the long entrance approach road, the strong sunlight almost exhausts your physical strength, if you persist for a while and go deep into the temple hidden in the jungle, you will find another cool world.
The temple was built in the 12th century by suliyebamo II and its design style is similar to that of Angkor Wat. But now the whole temple has been completely engulfed by the jungle, the central tower has completely collapsed, and scattered sandstone stones can be seen everywhere in the temple.
Visitors to the temple must follow a wooden corridor. Although some ruins can be climbed, it is recommended not to try easily unless you have good skills.
In my opinion, the charm of bengmi lie lies in the dazzling light and shadow projected on the ruins through the afternoon sun of towering trees, and the mysterious beauty created by the twists and turns of the roots and vines.
I personally like the historical sense of immersion in light and shadow, so I spent a long time in bengmili, about 3 hours.
Rolous temples
It is one of the earliest large-scale temples built by Khmer people, marking the beginning of Khmer classical art era.
Luoluo Temple group we only went to Bakong temple. It takes 60 minutes to visit Bakong temple
Bakong temple is the largest and most interesting temple in Luoluo Temple group. On the north side of its east entrance, there is a Buddhist temple still in use.
Bakong temple is a temple built by Indra Bama I to worship Shiva. She represented Xumi mountain, which was the central temple of the city at that time.
Facing the East, the temple consists of a five story central pyramid with sandstone structure, a 60 meter square at the bottom, eight pagodas with brick and sandstone mixed structure on both sides, and several small shrines.
It's 4:00 p.m. after the tour of Bakong temple. It's hard to avoid some aesthetic fatigue in a day's temple, so we gave up Preah Ko and Lolei and went directly to tonlisa lake to catch up with the beautiful sunset we had to see.
Tonle Sap
Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater inland lake in Southeast Asia and the mother lake of Cambodians. It is known as the natural water regulator of Mekong River. Buy a $20 / person ticket at the tourist center by the lake, and take the boat to the viewing platform in the middle of the lake.
When the boat leaves the dock, along a narrow river, there are rows of dilapidated fishermen's homes. All the domestic water comes from the turbid river, which emits rotten smell. The country still needs time to heal the pain caused by years of civil strife.
At sunset, on the river way to Tonle Sap Lake, there are such boats shuttling back and forth.
Driving out of the river, suddenly enlightened, the smell of the lake is not so strong, but still turbid. On the sparkling surface of the lake, there are tall houses and boat houses of all sizes. This is the famous floating village of Tonle Sap Lake. Under the setting sun, the wind is blowing, and we also feel comfortable after a day in the hot sun.
The so-called viewing platform is just a floating island made up of several fish rafts. There are three floors up and down. After 5 p.m., they are all team guests, but they are not too crowded.
It's nice to sit down in the west, order two cans of iced drinks and wait for the sunset. At one point I even felt like I was lying on the beach of an island.
Many netizens have been to the mangrove village of Fu, listen to the driver said, because of the dry season water is shallow, so temporarily can not enter. It takes two hours to enjoy the sunset at Tonle Sap Lake.
Back to the city from Tonle Sap Lake, we first stayed in the second hotel: popular Residence Hotel
It's a small but quiet hotel in the countryside of Siem Reap. The swimming pool of the hotel is very charming under the light at night.
The hotel is only 15 minutes away from bar street by Tutu bus.
The first day's dinner was solved in the Khmer kitchen, which was stimulated by the Internet. The order was still amok and dongyingong. Another bottle of slightly ice white wine, let the body and mind indulge in the evening breeze of Khmer in January.
Day2 04Jan16
Morning: sunrise at Angkor Wat, Shengjian temple, panshe temple, Tasha temple, dongmeiben temple, Bili Temple
Afternoon: tabron monastery
晚餐:Haven Training Restaurant
Spa:Bodia Spa
Last night's white wine made people have a good night's dream. I had a good dream that I had overslept and it was 5 a.m. when I opened my eyes. Jiaming had been waiting at the door of the hotel for a long time. Regardless of washing and breakfast, he grabbed the camera, got into the car and sped to Angkor Wat. All the way to Angkor Wat to see the sunrise of Tutu cars and cars, Siem Reap in the light of the morning light, gradually lively.
At 6:00 in the morning, the pond in front of Angkor Wat is already full of people. The people who occupy the first row in the center are afraid to arrive before 5 o'clock, so they have to turn to the side. In fact, the so-called beautiful sunrise is not as artistic as in the photos. It's a bit like the new year's era square. Its ears are full of languages from all over the world, and its mobile phone screens are constantly shaking in front of us.
The clouds were thick on that day, so there was no magnificent sight of a red sun rising from among the five towers.
Moat outside Angkor Wat
6: 30, the crowd gradually dispersed, at this time we are also a little hungry, discussed, or go back to the hotel for breakfast, and then start the next day's journey.
9: 30 from the hotel to the first attraction of the next day: Shengjian temple.
On the way through the north gate of Angkor King City, the huge four side Buddha head looks very solemn under the golden sun.
Preah Khan
Shengjian temple is one of the largest temples in Angkor. It was built by jayabama VII. It is said that the Angkor city was still under construction at that time, so it is also the temporary residence of jayabama VII.
The stone carving at the entrance of the west gate of Shengjian Temple reproduces the scene when Shura and Asura work together to stir the milk sea. The same stone carving can also be seen in the South Gate of Angkor King City.
Moat of Shengjian Temple
Shengjian temple covers a large area, but the temple itself is located in a 700 meter building × Within 800 meters of rectangular walls. Four aisles lead to each gate of the temple, and four arched corridors extend in four directions, East, West, North and south, with the central temple as the center.
There are many exquisite sculptures on the walls inside the temple, including Rishi and Apsara
Another attraction of Angkor temple lies in its gates. Mahayana temples are the same in size, while Hindu temples are decreasing in order. Khmer people have realized the beauty of perspective in the continuous practice of temple construction.
One of the difficulties in the conservation of Angkor remains is that these plants, even though they are small now, will grow into towering trees if they are not pruned, and the buildings under them will be completely destroyed.
The towering ancient trees on the outer wall of the east gate of Shengjian temple, the gable has been overwhelmed, and can only be supported by wooden scaffolding.
Inside the east gate is a peculiar Greek two-story building, which is said to be used to store the holy sword and the king's vault.
According to the stone tablet records in Shengjian temple, in its heyday, 515 gods were worshipped in the temple. In a year, the celebrations of 18 major festivals were held here, which needed thousands of staff to maintain. Now we can only use these relics to think about the grand occasion of that year.
It takes 90 minutes to visit Shengjian temple
Preah Neak poan
It's about 5 minutes' drive from the east gate of Shengjian temple to panshe temple. This is a small but well preserved Buddhist temple built at the end of the 12th century.
The whole temple used to be located in the center of a huge reservoir, so you need to pass a long wooden approach road to enter it. The scenery on both sides of the approach road is very distinctive, a bit like a forest in the water.
Shengjian temple has a large square pool, surrounded by four slightly smaller square pools. In the center of the central pool, there is a round island surrounded by two Naga seven headed snakes whose tails are intertwined with each other, hence the name of Pan snake temple.
Once upon a time, water flowed from the central pool to the four pools around through decorative nozzles. These nozzles were elephant head, horse head, lion head and human head respectively.
In the pool around the central island, there used to be four statues, but now only one remains. This statue has a peculiar shape, with horse body and human legs. It is said that the flying horse transformed from Guanyin is rescuing the shipwrecked people from a ghoul island.
When we arrived, all the pools were filled with water, the decorative nozzles could not see the whole picture, and the statue of Pegasus could only see part of it.
Panshe temple is very small, about 30 minutes to end the visit.
There are two kinds of views about the use of this temple, one is that it is the place of religious baptism; Jiang Xun thought that the four small pools were used for medicine bath. In other words, it used to be a hospital.
In my opinion, both the religious baptism pool and the hospital are places for healing, which shows the compassion of jayabama VII.
TA som
Tasha is located in the east of panshe temple, which is also a Buddhist temple built by jayabama VII at the end of the 12th century.
The most unforgettable sight of TASA temple is that a huge ancient tree completely crushed the tower in the East. It's easier to take the shocking view of the tree tower than the tabulung temple.
TASA temple is also small, and the tour time is only about 30 minutes.
Eastern Mebon
Dongmeiben is an Indian temple built by rajen Dharma II. It was originally located on an island in the middle of Dongchi reservoir, but now the reservoir has dried up.
The temple mountain of dongmeiben is five pagodas arranged in plum blossom shape. There are many holes on the walls of the brick temple, which were used to fix the surface plaster at the beginning of construction.
Each corner of the temple has a carved stone elephant with a body armor. Its image is simple and charming, and it is also the essence of the whole temple.
It takes about an hour to visit dongmeiben temple
Pre RUP
It was almost noon when I came out of dongmeiben temple. It was hot and thirsty. Although there was ice water handed by brother Jiaming, I still felt tired. So in the next Bili temple, I just stood in the shade of a tree from a distance and took a look.
The temple is supposed to be a royal crematorium, with some plaster fragments on the southwest pagoda.
Bi Li temple is also one of the most suitable scenic spots to watch the sunset around Angkor.
In the afternoon, we moved our luggage to Le Meridien Angkor and had a rest. Then we took a bus to the temple of tabron
TA Prohm
Tabron temple is undoubtedly the most artistic relic in Angkor and a must visit for every traveler.
Unlike other temples in Angkor, the attraction of Angkor is that the temple has been engulfed by the jungle, just as European explorers discovered Angkor temple for the first time.
The temple was renovated by India, which is different from the idea of other western countries. India only cleaned up the surrounding trees, but left the huge kibe trees in the original place, allowing them to tightly entangle the collapsed pagodas and walls of the temple. This makes it a unique experience to visit the temple. If Angkor Wat and Bayon temple are the witness of the artistic talent of the ancient Khmer people, then the temple makes people feel the power of the awe inspiring jungle. This ancient relic reflects a poetic cycle. First, human beings conquer nature and create quickly. Then nature dominates human beings again and slowly destroys them.
As a matter of fact, although the repair method in India seems to be labor-saving, it is quite difficult to maintain the coexistence of ancient trees and buildings.
The tree tightly around the temple building is called Jibei tree. Its root system is thick and strong. It is integrated with the temple, but it damages the temple all the time.
Tabulung temple is a Buddhist temple built in 1186. It was originally called the king of temples and was built for the mother of jayabama VII. Nearly 80000 people were asked to support or maintain the temple, including more than 2700 officials and 615 dancers.
Tabulung temple is the temple of the pagoda, with closed courtyards and narrow corridors, many of which are impassable.
There are two films related to the temple, one is Tomb Raider, the other is in the mood for love. The beauty of the film adds intangible charm to the temple, as if it is not only a temple, but also a magic box of Pandora that can be hidden in the heart.
It takes at least two hours to stroll through the labyrinth like corridors of the temple and take a closer look at the characteristic roots.
The next day's trip ended in the unforgettable tabron temple. Dinner went to haven training restaurant, which was reserved a week in advance. As a matter of fact, this restaurant is so popular that we only book it between 5:30 and 7:00.
Haven training restaurant is run by two Swiss people. As its name implies, it is a haven for orphans in war, and it also teaches them survival skills. The restaurant has just moved to a new address (chocolate Rd, wat damnak area west of Angkor high school Siem Reap). Remember to explain to the driver.
The restaurant serves western and Cambodian dishes, similar to the Khmer kitchen on the first day, but obviously more attentive.
In the green mango salad, dried fish from Donglisa lake is put, which improves the flavor of the whole dish.
Compared with Khmer kitchen, amok has a stronger flavor and aftertaste, which is the best dish on this trip.
Also see dongyingong, the favorite of good friends. It's obvious that haven's soup took time to boil. It's estimated that his family's amok will be so delicious, which is also related to it.
To be honest, spring rolls are not as delicious as they are made at home. I prefer to eat Chinese cabbage fried shredded meat stuffing.
It's fair to add $25 to the above four dishes and drinks.
Although the new restaurant is far away from the old market and bar street with many restaurants, it is more peaceful and comfortable. There are courtyards and small buildings, which are quite petty bourgeois. If you come to Siem Reap, you might as well experience it yourself.
After dinner, according to LP's recommendation, I went to bodia Spa at the end of bar street. A 90 minute special Masha chicken and a 60 minute facial care add up to $78. Although it's not cheap, the environment and service are still good, but the sound insulation of the room is slightly poor, and the music in the bar street is very loud. If you want to find a place that is really relaxing and private, it's a good choice.
Day3 05Jan16
Morning: bayong Temple
Afternoon: Angkor Wat, Bakun mountain
Dinner: koulen Restaurant
Shopping: Night Market
Bayon temple and Angkor Wat are undoubtedly the most wonderful parts of Angkor ruins. We left this part for the last day, and even ignored some smaller temples the next day, so we went to tabron Temple ahead of time. After visiting bayong temple, I gave up other scenic spots of Angkor, just to go back to the hotel for a rest at noon, so that I could have enough energy and time to enjoy the beautiful buildings of Angkor Wat in the afternoon.
Bayon temple
Even compared with the architectural treasures of the same period, the mysterious Bayon temple is unique. It is a national temple built by the legendary Cambodian monarch jayabama VII. It has winding corridors and steep steps. The most classic is 54 pagodas, which are decorated with 216 huge statues of Avalokitesvara with a faint smile, The face of the Bodhisattva is surprisingly similar to that of the monarch.
The bayong temple is being repaired by Japan, and some areas outside the temple are still under repair.
These huge heads look down on the world from every corner of the temple, implying the absolute power, control and benevolence of the monarch, which are the necessary conditions for ruling this vast empire. Only in this way can we ensure that all kinds of subjects everywhere can obey his wishes. In the process of sightseeing, you can see several head portraits anytime and anywhere: some are the whole face, some are just a contour, they gaze at your eyes horizontally, or they look down on you above you.
Bayong Temple faces the East. After the sun rises, the sun cools inch by inch. Each portrait looks very charming.
Angkor Wat is very spectacular from all angles, but bayong temple is different. From a distance, it is more like an exaggerated gravel mountain. Only when you enter the temple and ascend the third floor, its charm will show.
The main part of the bayong temple has only three floors. The first two floors are square and decorated with bas reliefs. The plane of the third floor is circular, with towers and heads.
If the relief of Angkor Wat is simple and clear, the relief of bayong temple is more detailed and comprehensive. It is 1.2 km long and depicts more than 11000 images, the most famous of which is the sculpture on the first external wall. It shows the realistic scenes of Cambodian daily life in the 12th century, which is in sharp contrast with the relief sculptures of Angkor Wat, which are mostly represented by fairy tales. It has become an encyclopedia for later generations to understand the ancient Khmer civilization.

Maybe Bayan temple is just king jayabama VII, who wants to realize his dream of immortality. He can't stir the milk sea to obtain the nectar of immortality like the God of heaven, but he can leave his face and witness the world changing rapidly. Rather than molding himself into a Buddha, he was sentimentally attached to the land where peace had not been achieved for hundreds of years, and did not want to abandon his subjects for a moment.
The king everywhere, the Buddha everywhere.
It takes at least 2 hours to visit the bayong temple
Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is the highest expression of the wisdom of Khmer people. You will be shocked to see it at first sight. Only a few places like Machu Picchu can match it in the world.
Angkor Wat is actually paradise on earth. Angkor is the secular representative of Mount Sumi in Hinduism and the place where ancient gods lived. " Angkor Wat, the Temple City, is a perfect combination of creative ambition and spiritual belief. In shaping the image of their ancestors, the successive kings of Cambodia have made great efforts to do better in size, proportion and symmetry. This effort has played an extreme role in Angkor Wat, the largest religious building in the world and the ancestor of many temples.
Angkor Wat is the heart and soul of Cambodia. It is the symbol of the country, the birthplace of Khmer civilization and the source of national pride. The majestic temple is surrounded by a moat, which dwarfs many European castles. Angkor Wat is indeed the most magnificent crystallization of human wisdom. Unlike other buildings in Angkor, Angkor Wat has never been abandoned since it was built and has been in use.
It is a unique and perfect combination of spirituality and symmetry. It is an eternal gift of mankind to the gods. The first time I came near Angkor Wat and walked on the inner approach road, I could hardly experience the palpitation in other places. It's the best preserved temple in Angkor, and it's worth visiting again and again. Every time, you can find details that you haven't noticed before.
Angkor Wat is famous for its charming apsaras. More than 3000 flying dancers with different images are carved on the walls of Angkor Wat, from which designers have found 37 different hairstyles.
The descendants of hanouman still enjoy respect and courtesy here.
Angkor Wat is surrounded by a 190m wide moat, which forms a huge rectangle, 1.5km long and 1.3km wide. A sandstone road leads through the moat in the West. The sandstone stones used in the construction of Angkor Wat came from Lichi mountain more than 50 kilometers away. People put the stones on bamboo rafts and drifted along the Siem Reap river. Thousands of labors were employed here. According to the inscription, 300000 workers and 6000 elephants were requisitioned for the construction of Angkor Wat.
Around the center of the temple is an 800 meter long set of complicated and magical bas reliefs. If you start from the West and make sure that the bas relief is on your left, the order of viewing will be consistent with the story. Most of the bas reliefs were completed in the 12th century. I
