A luxury resort has opened on Krabey Island in Cambodia that sees guests staying in gorgeous villas that sink into the lush surrounding jungle. With a focus on sustainability, the resort offers different experiences, including hikes, sunset cruises, visits to an organic farm and relaxing spa breaks.
Six Senses Krabey Island is accessible from Sihanouk International Airport, with a 10-minute drive to the resort’s mainland reception and a 15-minute boat crossing to the island. The 30-acre private island is located on southern Cambodia’s Riviera with dense tropical wilderness and rocky coastlines. It has 40 villas, and each room has a sundeck for lounging and alfresco dining, as well as infinity-edged plunge pools and rain showers.
As well as the organic farm that supplies much of the produce for the resort, the island also has a bottling plant that provides reverse osmosis-treated drinking water in reusable glass bottles. The resort has also taken steps to support local community and education projects linked with sustainability and marine conservation.
Guests can choose from two restaurants with menus that focus on local produce and seasonality. Tree serves up modern takes on traditional Khmer Southeast Asian cuisine while AHA has lighter bites with international flavours. The Sunset Bar, furnished with comfy sofas and hammocks has views over the Gulf of Thailand, and an ice-cream parlour has 15 flavours each day on a complimentary basis for guests.
Unique experiences available to book include night swimming with bioluminescent plankton, forest bathing on a bird and butterfly trail and special Khmer cooking classes.
“The feedback in general has been very positive. Our guests appreciate the natural and private setting of Krabey Island. There's a real sense of being at one with nature. They do like our villas as they are modern and quite residential [while] at the same time blending quite well with the lush jungle on the island,” Ary Arbani, Marketing Communications Manager at Six Senses Krabey Island told Lonely Planet.
